Types of EV Chargers:

Level 1 – A level 1 charger, sometimes known as a ‘trickle charger,’ is the basic charger that comes with most EVs. These chargers are the slowest on the market and run off a standard wall outlet at 110 volts.

Level 2 – The most popular type of EV charger installed in homes is a level 2 EV home charger. Level 2 chargers are significantly more powerful than level 1 chargers and will charge your electric vehicle much faster. Count on a level 2 EV charger to recharge your daily commute in an hour or two or from zero to fully charged overnight.

Level 3 – A level 3 charger is what you would find at hotels, shopping malls and other public locations. These commercial chargers are the quickest you can find. However, level 3 chargers are prohibitively expensive, require powerful, specialized equipment to operate, and are not available for home installation.

Level 2 Electrical Vehicle Charging Station Installation

All level 2 EV chargers must be installed by a licensed electrician. These chargers run on 240 volts of electricity, similar to your home’s electric dryer. However, they need to be hardwired into your home’s electrical panel.
